Rare Mayan Stucco Cylinder

Rare Mayan Stucco Cylinder  Pre-Columbian, Mexico and northern Central America, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. An impressive pottery cylinder vessel boasting intricately incised glyphs and vibrant remains of stucco decoration in hues of mint green and coral pink. Impressively preserved, these ancient glyphs may convey an important date, a secret message, or simply be part of the vessel's aesthetic program. Due to residue analysis done on similar examples, scholars posit that vessels like this one were used for drinking chocolate - a hugely popular and ritual practice amongst the Maya, especially the elite.
